Siren

My submission for   's "Mythical Creature" competition. 

This is my interpretation of the classic "siren". Not a beautiful woman-fish that lures humans to their death, but a deceptive sea predator made just right for ensnaring it's prey. The siren will maneuver itself towards boats or docks and expand it's massive throat, which allows it to hum and moan and sing the legendary siren's song in all manner of keys, octaves and ranges. It's even skilled enough with it's vocal cords that it can harmonize with itself to cause curious people to approach.

The siren also has little light lures along it's fin spines and hair/tentacles which would have the dual effect of causing an ethereal glow in the water and also confusing humans to the true nature of the shape that lurks below the surface.

It has three sets of eyes. The bottom two are meant for underwater and even deep sea vision, but the top set is actually meant to see above the water. The siren will lift it's head out of the water to just below the first set of eyes. It is all meant as a lure. The humans see what looks to be the head of a half human, half fish poking out, surrounded by light and song and of course they cannot help but to move closer to inspect it.

Those top eyes of the siren can see when the humans are leaning out close enough, and it's powerful back legs will explode the siren forward, upward, and CHOMP with it's long deadly teeth. Once caught the siren will drag it's trophy down into the water. If the human is still alive the siren has some options. It's glowing tendril like tentacles mimic the paralytic effects of jellyfish tendrils, but in strong enough doses to effect all humans. The siren's webbed legs and fingers are mobile enough where it can grip the human if need be.

Any humans above that witness the horror would only be able to account a tale of an eerie sea song, a glimpse of a woman-fish surrounded by wavering lights, then a flash of fins and teeth. And so the seas become that much more fearful to all who hear the warning tale of the dreaded siren.
